Lauren McMurray is an international award-winning stylist and Creative Director of Iron and Ivy Hair and Beauty in Queenstown, New Zealand.  We caught up with her recently to get some tips on prepping your locks for the big day ..

What advice do you have to prep your hair to look it’s best for your wedding day?

My best advice for ensuring your hair is ready for your wedding day would be including regular treatments as part of your routine in the lead up to your big day to ensure that your hair is happy, healthy and easily manageable.

My personal favourite and one loved by my clients is Olaplex. Olaplex is a patented active ingredient that works on a molecular level to seek out broken bonds in your hair that are caused by chemical, thermal and mechanical damage.

So if like me, you’re an avid user of hot styling tools or you have your hair coloured regularly then I recommend incorporating this into your beauty regime at least a month prior to your special day.

I would also recommend that if you are planning on having your hair cut and a colour service for your wedding, then do so a week before to ensure so your colour looks fresh and your ends are looking healthy and ask your stylist to include Olaplex into your service.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I am originally from the UK, so I draw a lot of inspiration from what is trending in London, Paris, and Milan, for instance, curtain fringes are currently on-trend in Europe and look fabulous if you wear your hat out for those pre-celebration occasions or if you’re opting for a modern up style.

Any tips on keeping hair looking gorgeous for the entire day?

As this will be the busiest day of your life, there’s probably not much time for continually touching up and styling your hair throughout the day. I would recommend that you or your maid of honour carry a travel size finishing hair spray, (Kevin Murphy Session spray would be perfect) in addition to a few hair pins and a tester size lip stick in your clutch for those few and far between times you can cease the moment to prepare yourself for those special camera moments.
